In 1964 Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg,C.I.G. (The Welsh Language Society) an organization which utilized nonviolent direct action to block the forces contributing to the decline of the Welsh language. This case study, conducted by Mary Fancier in 1973, provides a breakdown of the actions taken by C.I.G in the Sixties. The long range goal of the bi-lingnual sign action in Wales was Intended to ensure "the right of [every] Welshman to use "Welsh—in all spheres of life.”(C.I. G. document 99 quoted in the booklet Symbols of Justice p.6 ) Fancier looked at the past and the present conditions of road signs in Wales and broadly the Welshes language in the face of oppressive English supremacy.
